Gospel Record Transfers, Part 1

A fellow record collector and contributor to this blog (thanks Devon) gifted me a stack of gospel records. In my attempt to digitize as many records as possible, I went on and transferred a bunch of them, cleaned them up a little (the click removal these days is so much better than 15 or so years ago), sliced them, scanned the covers and uploaded everything to the good old, clunky archive.org. I think that’s a better place than YouTube. The latter is easier to use, but archive.org, doesn’t show you ads, it’s there for a greater good and allows for lossless flac files.

So, I hope you’ll enjoy one of the following records. Feel free to share them and if you have some Tri-State Area Bluegrass Gospel on your computer, one, or many download links are appreciated.

Donald Honeycutt

Country gospel from North Carolina with the Nashville sound. All songs by Honeycutt.

Gloria Barnes – My Valley, 1972

A quite personal record on the Casey label. Her testimony is kind of haunting.

The Gospel Mountaineers – River of Tears, 1977

Plain bluegrass gospel from Franklin, NC. Quite good, despite being from 1977. (Everything after 1972 is deemed as not so good, according to music snobs like me :))

The Reid Family Singers – Little Is Much

Unaccompanied gospel singing by The Reid Family Singers from Eagle Rock, VA.

The download on archive.org is not as intuitive, but you’ll figure it out. Also, there is more to be found ;-).
