The Mountain Four – The Last Mile Of The Way
High-lonesome gospel esoterica from West Virginia on Salem Records. The group started in 1948, and this seems to be their first album, released in 1964. A little bit of an odd mix, with the guitars in the foreground, as if they were too close to the microphone. Nonetheless, a handful of good songs, beautiful mountain singing.

Organized in 1948, Clinton and Edward O’Dell are the only two members from the original group. Now, the group is composed of Melvin McMillion & Edsel Cartright. As Melvin “Mac” will tell you, “We’re just 4 country boys raised, living and working in the coal mining center of West Virginia, and we have had many spiritual blessings through singing the Gospel in song!”
It is the hope of the Mountain Four that you will receive a blessing from these songs and that you too will be joining them when they take that journey on The Last Mile of the Way.
