Blue Grass Gospel By The Country Valley Singers
A decent bluegrass gospel album on the Crusade Enterprise/Records label out of Illinois.
The Country Valley Singers
Leonard Smith, Pete Price, Mary Martin, Bob Martin, and Gene Weeks
Bluegrass gospel music (often referred to as country or mountain music) is one of the most popular genres today.
During the recording session, The Country Valley Singers did a tremendous job of picking and singing this kind of music. Two of the selections on this album were written by members of the group and will be available in sheet music.
The Country Valley Singers are headquartered in South Bend, Indiana, but they are not natives of the Yankee country. All of them have migrated to this area from their homeland of Dixie.
- Bob Martin, manager of the group, hails from Savannah, Tennessee. He plays the mandolin and sings tenor.
- Mary Martin, Bob’s wife, adds charm and a beautiful alto voice to the group. She also comes from Tennessee, grew up in the Savannah area, and attended school with Bob.
- Pete Price comes to the group from Waterloo, Alabama. He plays the banjo and sings a smooth bass part.
- Leonard Smith was born near Jackson, Tennessee. He plays the big bass viol and sings baritone.
- Gene Weeks (the fellow with the big smile) was born near Florence, Alabama. He plays rhythm guitar and sings lead.
It was a real pleasure to work with the Country Valley Singers, as we found them to be tops both in their personalities and their talent. We feel many hours of pleasure await the purchaser of this fine album of country gospel music and singing.
